This course aims to equip the managers with an overview of relevant economic issues in a private and public context. Starting with an exposition of the fundamental economic concepts and examining the workings of the market system. Different market structures and their impact on organizations are reviewed. Relevant aspects of the macroeconomic are introduced with a focus on public & private impact and decision-making. Specific problems like inflation, growth, and the control of business cycles will be addressed. This is followed by an exposition of international economic issues. The course ends with a research activity that will pull all the course strands together and prepare students fully for the assessment. Various macroeconomic tools will be used to analyze how government policy measures in regulating and planning to overcome economic imbalance will be discussed. By the end of the course, the student should be able to evaluate macroeconomic arguments in the economic situation critically and to understand the nature of economic policy issues at the conceptual level.

Critical financial resources have become an issue for many countries since the expansion of the federal governments expenditure. This course equips students with an understanding of the governments role in achieving public finance objectives and what justifies governments intervention in the market system. This course addresses the financial sustainability of a state by complementing the western worldview with the Islamic perspective with the hope to find consolation of what and how government should move forward. The first part of the course looks at related philosophy, theory, concept and nomenclature in economics, public finance and other related fields that is important to study the role of government in public financial management today. The second part deals with fiscal instruments such as annual budget and system, taxation system and debt, above and all had increased governments reliance on deficit finance. The third part covers topic of financial management and governance of the public sectors practices and performance with reference to the global comparison.

This course examines the processes that influence the development of social policy. Hence, the course is designed to provide an overview of social policy, the effect of development of Government on family, education, health, employment and welfare. What is emphasized in this course and curriculum includes problem or needs analysis, policy analysis, program development; and implementation (to some degree), and program evaluation. Disciplines of economics, sociology, demography, history, political science, evaluation, psychology, law, management, and education all have important contributions to make to the realm of social policy. The goal of the course is therefore to give the student an appreciation of the breadth and depth of social policy and the way that public policy analysts and administrators design, analyze, and evaluate it.

FC232 GMGA5033 KUMP AB LOCAL GOVERNMENT MANAGEMENT

The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the practice of local government management. This course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge about local government system and management from selected countries. In short, this course is country-oriented involving the UK, USA, European countries and Asia. The course will explore the general purposes of local government units involving cities, municipalities, counties, and township. Key issues in several functional areas of local government service will be highlighted either now or recently involve the roles of local government to serves the local citizens. Upon completion of this course, students will able to obtain new knowledge through various perspectives, for example, analysing legislation of different countries in the sphere of local governance, and the practice of delivering good services in local councils.

FC232 GMGA5023 KUMP A CORPORATE GOVERNANCE IN ASIA

Leadership is a special function in the organization which provides direction, stimulations and coordination to organizational activities. Good leadership provides motivation for group members to do what is necessary to achieve organizational goals. To ensure that students understand the dual role of being both a leader and manager, the purpose of this course is to expound the basic concepts of leadership and the essentials skill required to become an effective leader or manager in a variety of settings. Other major topics include leadership, environment and organization, leadership and their immediate groups, leadership, task and technology, stress and leadership, leadership in different cultures, assessment and forecasting of leaders and managers performance and leadership issues for the twenty-first century. Ultimately students will gain the applied aspects of leadership and how all this applies to real world situations and synthesize their learning into a coherant philosophy of leadership to serve as a foundation upon which they can build and improve their personal leadership style.
